<p><b>At General Motors, we’re committed to your safety.</b> As part of

that commitment, this website can help you understand the Takata airbag

recall and what you should do if your vehicle is affected.</p>

<p>There have been a number of recalls initiated by GM and other

manufacturers relating to Takata airbag inflators. Takata has advised

the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the

vehicle manufacturers that a defect exists in the airbag inflators

produced for certain vehicles. The determination was made that the

propellant in the inflators may degrade after long-term exposure to high

humidity and temperature cycling, which could cause the inflator to

explode during a deployment in a crash event. An inﬂator rupture

may cause sharp metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the

vehicle interior at high speed, striking you or your loved ones, which

may result in injury or death to passengers.</p>

<li><b>Accurately track vehicles </b>that have been scrapped or

salvaged and are off the road<b> </b>by utilizing the National

Motor Vehicle Title Information System to identify those that are

“out of transit.”</li>

<li><b>Make owners aware </b>of this urgent safety

recall<b> </b>by serving up online advertising to affected

owners when they are engaging online.</li>

<li><b>Bring repairs to the owner </b>instead of the owner coming

to the dealer. In select markets, GM has worked with a third-party

mobile repair entity that allows owners to have their vehicles

repaired for <b>FREE</b> at home, work or other convenient

locations.</li>

<li><b>Generate awareness at independent repair facilities </b>with

display and shop communications. The Takata Airbag Safety Recall

affects drivers of older vehicle models who often service their

vehicles at smaller, independent repair facilities; they may miss

alerts and repairs of safety recalls they would typically get from a

dealership. To help alert these owners, GM provides materials to be

posted in repair shops’ waiting areas and employee areas.</li>

<li><b>Help owners schedule their FREE repair </b>with personalized

live calls. GM has launched a live phone call pilot program that

provides personalized service to owners so that they understand the

communications, providing additional support and service scheduling.

information, so GM knows where and how to contact them in the

future. It will also help GM keep track of who currently owns the

affected owners using the dealers’ own format and contact

information where available to help get these vehicles repaired.
